On the occasion of the COP16 in Colombia, Bloomberg Philanthropies publishes the report On track or off course? Assessing progress towards the 30×30 target for the ocean. This study shows that only 8.3% of the ocean is protected and only 2.8% is effectively protected. This is a long way from the target of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030, with one third of this 30% under strict protection.
